Soccer News – Leipzig-Freiburg
RB Leipzig faces Freiburg at the Red Bull Arena in a game from the 26th round of the Bundesliga. For both teams this is going to be a first game since two months, because of the COVID-19 quarantine. Who prepared better for this moment? We shall see on Saturday.
RB Leipzig approach this fixture from third place in the league, being five points behind the leader Bayern Munich and just one point behind the second Borussia Dortmund. On paper the Red Bulls still have the chance to win their first title, although being 5 points behind Bayern Munich is not the best position to find yourself at.
Before the quarantine, RB Leipzig suffered just one defeat in their last 16 games in the Bundesliga. Clearly the summer appointment of the manager Julian Nagelsmann improved the team, because RB Leipzig are confidently marching towards a return to the Champions League. They might not be the favourite for the Bundesliga title right now, but the COVID-19 pandemic could change a lot of things for the German clubs. If the Red Bulls prepared their players better, this could be their way towards the first place.
In the same time Freiburg were also enjoying a good Bundesliga season. Before the quarantine, they were 8th in the league with 36 points, being just one point behind the 6th Schalke 04. If they manage to keep this level of performance, Freiburg could win a place in the European competitions for the next season. Before the pause, Christian Streich’s team enjoyed a solid 3-1 win over Union Berlin at home.
In conclusion we can say that RB Leipzig and Freiburg are up for a great game on Saturday. RB Leipzig are arguably among the best teams in the country, but Freiburg are having one of their most positive seasons in the recent years. Let’s see what’s going to happen.
