Soccer News – Barcelona-Mallorca
The champion and current leader in La Liga Barcelona hosts Mallorca at the Camp Nou in a game from the 16th round of the Spain’s elite competition. In this game Barca will try to keep their position as a leader in front of the second Real Madrid.
Barcelona reacted well to their loss against Levante, winning all of their next three matches in La Liga. Right now the Catalans are on par with Real Madrid at the top of the table, but being ahead with a better goal difference.
In the previous round Ernesto Valverde’s team achieved a very important win from strategic point of view. Los Cules had a tough visit to Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano. The match was going to end with a draw, but in the 86th minute Lionel Messi showed his magic and scored the winner in Jan Oblak’s net.
During the week Messi offically recieved the Ballon d’Or for a record sixth time in his career. The Argentine wizard will show it in front of the Camp Nou on Saturday. Messi has 9 goals in La Liga this season so far, being only behind Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema.
Mallorca are among the newcomers in La Liga this season. Right now they are keeping themselves above the relegation zone, being 17th in the table with 14 points. Mallorca’s record since the start of the campaign looks like this – 4 wins, 2 draws and 9 losses.
Against Barcelona Mallorca will be without Yannis Salibur, Aridai Cabrera and Abdul Baba, who are sidelined with injuries.
Meanwhile Ernesto Valverde can’t use Nelson Semedo, Jordi Alba and Ousmane Dembele, who are all recovering from injuries.
We expect to see Barcelona in a full control of the game against Mallorca on Saturday. The Catalans can’t make any mistake here, if they want to to keep the top position in the league. It’s going to be a tough night for Mallorca.
