Soccer News – Chelsea-Newcastle United
Chelsea hosts Newcastle United in a match from the 15th round of the English Premier League.
Chelsea are currently third in the Premier League standings with 29 points won so far. The champions’ record is nine wins, two draws and three defeats. They are trailing on three points behind the 2nd Manchester United. Right now Chelsea are enjoying a good run of results, winning four of their last five matches and losing none of them.
In the last round Antonio Conte’s team enjoyed a difficult, but important 1-0 win over Swansea at home. Now they will have another chance to bag three points at home. This is the type of games which Chelsea must keep winning, if they want to end their season in the Premier League on a high note.
Meanwhile Newcastle are 12th in the Premier League at the moment. The Magpies have just 15 points and a record of four wins, three draws and seven defeats. Things are going great for them lately, because in their last five matches, Newcastle lost four of them. And won none. In the last round Rafa Benitez’ team made a 2-2 draw against West Bromwich, which at least stopped their negative run of consecutive losses.
Chelsea can’t use the injured Belgian striker Michy Batshuayi, while David Luiz and Kenedy are having some problems lately. It’s still unknown if they’d be avaliable for selection by Antonio Conte.
In the same time Rafael Benitez is without the injured Christian Atsu, while Matt Ritchie and Jamaal Lascelles are doubtful for the match. The good news come from the recovery of Massadio Haidara, Paul Dummett and Emmanuel Riviere.
Chelsea are the clear favourite here. If you look at these two teams’ recent results, you’d see that Chelsea are doing well lately, while Newcastle are a team in crisis.
