Soccer News – Real Madrid-Athletic Bilbao
For Real Madrid this game comes just few days after the El Classico against Barcelona at the Camp Nou. The big game in Catalonia ended with a 0-0 draw, which left the fans dissapointed by the lack of spectacle. Both teams played a tactical game and we didn’t saw a lot of goalscoring chances. Real Madrid’s best chance came in the first half when Raphael Varane headed the ball, but Gerard Pique cleared it from the line.
Because of the draw Real Madrid remain second in La Liga with 36 points, being on par with the leader Barcelona. What Los Blancos can do now is continue win their matches and wait for Barca to make a mistake. On Saturday the Catalans play against Deportivo Alaves at home.
Against Barca Zinedine Zidane left Luca Modric, Rodrygo and Vinicius on the bench, using Gareth Bale in the starting eleven. It’d be curious to see what the French manager will choose for the game against the tough Basques.
Athletic Bilbao are 7th in La Liga with 27 points won so far. The Basques are just 3 points behind Getafe and the Top 4, so they have the motivation to continue win points. They are without a win in their last two matches.
Last week Athletic made a dissapointing performance. They hosted Eibar at the San Mames Barria and they were favourites, but the match ended without any goals being scored – 0-0. It was a great chance for the Basques to score another win, but they didn’t deliver.
For both Real Madrid and Athletic Bilbao it won’t be an easy game at the Santiago Bernabeu. Athletic will be fresher because of Madrid’s El Classico during the week, so let’s see how this will affect the hosts.
