After 12 years of waiting, Saudi Arabia return to the World Cup. They are the underdogs in Group A, but they are determined to do well and at least win some points. They have an interesting head coach – Juan Antonio Pizzi. He’s an Argentine, but during his career he played for the Spanish national team. Who exactly is he?

Juan Antonio Pizzi used to play as a striker. During his career he played for big clubs like Barcelona, Valencia, Porto and River Plae. For Barca he played 48 league games and scored 11 goals. He ended his career in 2002, with Villarreal being his last club.

Between 2016 and 2017 Juan Antonio Pizzi was working as a manager of Chile. With La Roja he achieved his biggest success to date, winning Copa America. After his time with Chile ended, Pizzi was appointed as a new manager of Saudi Arabia.

Being in the company of Uruguay, Egypt and Russia, Saudi Arabia are the obvious underdog in Group A. But with an ambitious and capable manager like Pizzi, the Green Falcons won’t give up without a fight. That’s for sure.
