Tennis News – ATP 250 Newport USA

The №1 seeded Josn Isner is facing Matthew Ebden in the final of the ATP 250 tournament in Newport, USA.

In the first round Isner had the opportunity to rest. During the 1/8-finals he met the Australian Sam Groth. In the first round Groth was tested against the American Austin Krajicek, but he won the match in three sets – 6-7 7-6 6-3.

But John Isner was too much of an obstacle for Groth. The №1 seeded didn’t face any problems against the Australian and won the match with 6-2 6-4.

In the 1/4-finals Isner faced his countryman Dennis Novikov. Novikov started the competition against Marco Chiudinelli from Switzerland and won easily against him – 6-1 6-3. In the 1/8-finals Novikov was not really tested against Frank Dancevic from Canada, enjoying a 6-3 6-2 win.

But just like Sam Groth, Novikov had John Isner as a too much of an opponent. Isner won in two sets – 6-4 6-4 and reached the 1/2-finals.

There he had to play against another American – Bjorn Fratangelo. Before that Fratangelo won against Illya Marchenko, Akira Santillan and Pierre-Hugues Herbert. But against Isner he was defeated – 2-6 4-6.

Matthew Ebden on the other hand is enjoying an amazing tournament so far. He started from the qualifications and reached the main draw. In the first round he defeated Rajeev Ram from USA, beating the veteran with 6-1 6-4.

In the 1/8-finals Ebden had to face the №6 seeded Lukas Lacko from Slovakia, who defeated Reilly Opelka from USA in the first round. Ebden was once again the better player – 6-1 7-6.

In the 1/4-finals the Australian had for opponent the German Tobias Kamke. It was a really competitive match between them, but Ebden prevailed in three – 4-6 7-6 6-4.
