The №3 seeded Caroline Wozniacki won his first title for the season, winning the tournament in the Japanese capital Tokyo. In the final Wozniacki managed to defeat the Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in two sets – 6-0 7-5.

In the first round Wozniacki had a bye and in the second round she faced the American Shelby Rogers. She had some difficulties in the first set, but the former world №1 managed to get the win in three – 4-6 6-1 6-4.

In the next round Wozniacki had a difficult test against the №5 seeded Dominika Cibulkova, but she managed to prevail after a retirement by Cibulkova in the third set.

In the 1/2-finals it was time for Wozniacki’s biggest test in the tournament – a match against the Wimbledon winner and №1 in the main seed Garbine Muguruza. And what a win it was for Caroline – 6-2 6-0. It also gave Wozniacki enough confidence to enter the final as a favourite and to win it.

Her opponent in the final Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova started her campaign in Tokyo against the American Catherine Bellis. She won the match with 4-6 6-0 6-4 and continued to the second round. There she had to face Qiang Wang from China. Pavlyuchenkova once again lost a set, but she won the clash with 6-4 4-6 6-2.

In the 1/4-finals Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova tested her skills against Barbora Strycova from the Czech Republic. Once again the Russian player lost a set, but it didn’t stop her from winning – 5-7 6-3 6-1.

To reach the final in Tokyo, Pavlyuchenkova had to prevail against the №7 seeded Angelique Kerber from Germany. She won the first set without losing a game, but lost the second one. After all, she won the match with 6-0 6-7(4) 6-4 and reached the final.
